The royal family may be a close-knit family in private, but they have formalities to follow while they are in public. Rather than utilizing slang terms or colloquial terms, they address one another using their formal titles and etiquette.

By upholding the royal family's status and functions, this protocol serves to maintain the public's formal perception of the monarchy. They can (and do) use lovable nicknames or personal names in private or among close family members.
